I participated in the 2014 Campaign to End Hunger located in a community center in northern Virginia. House of Mercy organized volunteers to package food to feed the hungry. Typically ten volunteers operate a table, each volunteer is assigned a different task, for example, scooping rice, weighing the packaged food, sealing the packaged food, etc. Each session lasts two hours. The operation was well-run, the folks are friendly, and you feel that you have contributed to a real cause at the end of your session. One thing that stood out was that the volunteers' ages vary from elementary school children to seniors, very family friendly.

I volunteered for the 2014 Campaign to End Hunger meal packing event. Everyone signed up for a 2 hour shift. When I arrived there were many corporate groups and individuals and families from the local area. The process was well developed and really efficient. Our shift ran long, about 3 hours, but I think we packed about 20,000 meals in that time. The people from the House of Mercy were really nice and the work they are doing is inspiring.
