Human Trafficking is just another name for slavery and it is on the rise. No matter what form slavery takes we need to stand against it.
Last year I went to an anti-human trafficking conference in Northern California and journalist Julian Sher was one of the panelists. He was a powerful speaker focused on breaking the stereotypes that surround prostituted women & children. I have been meaning to pick up his book “Somebody’s Daughter: The Hidden Story of America’s Prostituted Children and the Battle to Save Them” for months and finally did today. I will let you know how it goes, already I have learned that the FBI estimates that there are 800,000 prostituted (commercially sexually exploited) children in the U.S. today. I still can’t believe that number – and the fact the most of these children will be arrested as criminals and their abusers will only be fined as johns. That is seriously screwed up.
Anyways, I would be interested in learning if any of you have reading suggestions for the rest of us. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
